My name is Walter Chavez. I'm a software engineer, originally from Nicaragua, raised in Costa Rica, and now based in the United States.
I know hunger. I know what it feels like to go to bed at night with nothing in your stomach. That experience never left me, and for as long as I can remember I've carried this thought: if I ever had the means, I wouldn't let anybody go hungry.
I migrated to the US in 2020 and worked as a software engineer, first at a consulting company in Boston, then at Keysight Technologies until late 2025 when I was let go. Losing that job opened my eyes to something I think a lot of people feel: we are dependent on others for our financial security. It pushed me to build something of my own.
So I combined what I know (software, hardware, and the problem that shaped me) into Turing Hydro. A hydroponic system that uses up to 90% less water, is easy to assemble, and is paired with a smart controller and app that I built from scratch. My small contribution toward a world where no one should go hungry.
I'm not sure if this is going to be a huge success. But I have to try. And if you're here, maybe you believe in it too.
